Today I tried plugging my Panasonic Blu-ray player into a monitor that didn’t support 1080p video signals. Of course, the player was set to 1080p, and none of the instructions I found online helped. I had to resort to reading the manual!
So here comes the solution to this model, released 2012, and probably also some other models of the era:
The easy way
Turn the unit on then press and hold the following three buttons on the remote for 5+ seconds: OK, Yellow, Blue. The LCD display should now read “00 RET”.
Press the right arrow key a couple times to get to “04 PRG”. Press and hold the OK button for 3+ seconds.
The hard way
Alternatively, this sequence of buttons should allow you to navigate the menus blind:
Home, OK, Down, OK, Down x5, OK, OK…
Now it will be on a menu with the following options:
- Automatic
- 576p/480p
- 720p
- 1080i
- 1080p
Whichever mode it is currently on will be the one selected, and the selection wraps around if you press the up button when at the top or the down button when at the bottom. For example, if 1080p is selected and you want 720p, press the up button twice or the down button thrice.
After navigating to your desired resolution, press OK, Up, OK. If there’s now a picture, confirm your selection (Up, OK).
The alternative way
This model has a composite output on the back that should be active all the time. If you have a TV with such an input at hand, plug it in to see the menus.
